Internships and co-ops

We offer internship and co-op opportunities at both the undergraduate and MBA level throughout the firm, globally. Each program is designed to ensure interns gain valuable industry experience while learning about our firm.

Wellington Management has a summer undergraduate internship program. The 10-week internship takes place between June and August, and opportunities exist in Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco. The program is inclusive to all undergraduate students but focuses on students with a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion and support of underrepresented groups in the investment management industry, including but not limited to, women and people of color. We seek all talented, hardworking undergraduate students with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.

Our internship roles span many departments in the firm including the areas of business, investment research and technology. Internship roles typically fall into the following teams, but change every year based on business need:

  • Legal & Enterprise Risk Management

Over the summer, our interns experience a highly challenging and rewarding program that offers insights into the investment management industry and Wellington Management. Exceptional summer interns are viewed as potential candidates for our full-time campus programs.

Wellington Management has selectively established offices to support global investing and our global client base. Our relationship management teams actively serve clients in their own time zones. The proximity, coupled with their local market knowledge, enables relationship managers to focus on issues unique to each client’s investment environment. With the growth of our global offices, we are now able to offer more opportunities for undergraduates. Below are the current offices with opportunities:

Hong Kong
Wellington Management offers undergraduate opportunities in the Hong Kong office. Opportunities exist within our Global Trading Group, Client Group, Investment Product & Fund Strategies Group, Investment Research Department, Investment Services & Technology Group (InvesTech). London
Wellington Management offers various undergraduate opportunities in London. Roles are available in areas such as Client Group, Investment Research, Legal, Investment Products & Fund Strategies, Investment Services & Technology (InvesTech), and Trading. Opportunities vary based on duration, and eligible candidates are sourced from universities locally. Please email the undergrad mailbox for more information.

Singapore
Wellington Management offers Client Group, Investment Products and Fund Strategies, Investment Research, and Investment Services & Technology (InvesTech) opportunities based in the Singapore office. Interested undergraduates must be in their penultimate year and eligible to work in Singapore. The program recruits directly from the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and Singapore Management University. Sydney
Wellington Management offers internships working with our Client Group and Investment Services & Technology Group (InvesTech) in the Sydney office. Applicants should be penultimate year students who are eligible for work in Australia. We recruit directly from the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney. Wellington Management partners directly with Northeastern University’s Co-op program for Boston-based positions. If you are a Northeastern University student, please contact your advisor for more information.

Inspired by our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, strategy, Wellington Management is pleased to provide scholarships and internships for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) who have a desire to learn more about career opportunities that exist within the Investment Management industry.  

The Wellington Scholars Program consists of a renewable annual merit-based scholarship of up to $15,000, which will be applied to junior- and senior-year tuition, as well as a paid summer internship after the scholar’s sophomore and junior year.

Wellington’s intent is to provide a hands-on development experience to expose students to the asset management industry and to deliver academic tuition assistance to support the scholar’s matriculation.

Wellington Management will work with you to meet your long-term career aspirations — we do not believe in a one-size-fits-all career path. Our goal is to help you develop and evolve into a top performer in whatever field you choose.

There are many ways to develop your professional career. Some Wellington Management employees go on to part-time graduate studies using the firm’s tuition reimbursement benefit. Some pursue the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation through Wellington Management’s CFA® program. Others decide to go back to school full time to pursue graduate studies. All paths are encouraged and supported.

Full-time opportunities

Wellington Management’s Campus Programs seek smart, diverse, intellectually curious graduating students who want to launch their full-time careers in investment management.

A full-time, three-year opportunity for graduating Bachelor’s students who are interested in a variety of career opportunities available in the investment management industry. This program will provide insight into our industry, firm, and culture. Successful candidates are high-performing, talented students who are intellectually curious and self-motivated. During the program, top performing BAs will be placed into positions across the firm that are complementary to their skills, interests, and business needs. To qualify, you will need to graduate in the Fall 2023 – Spring 2024 academic calendar year and be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in any major.

A full-time, up to five-year opportunity in our Investment Science group suitable for bachelor’s, Masters and PhD students.

As an Investment Science Associate, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in complex data sets, research challenging investment questions, and solve problems with modern data science techniques — from idea generation and prototyping to validation and production.

Examples of the nature of the work include:

  • Building predictive models and identifying and validating public data sources to build out data-driven investment hypotheses
  • Completing complex analytical projects and statistical analyses across securities, asset classes, and economic relationships
  • Assisting with portfolio construction, factors, risk management, and trading analysis
  • Creating visualizations and dashboard views using various data sets
  • Working with structured and unstructured data
  • Researching macroeconomic themes and factors
  • Collaborating with fundamental investors to generate alpha within investment processes

Investment Science Associates will act as internal investment science consultants and research analysts, providing quantitative research to the firm’s talented community of investors. These insights will enable the firm to make prudent financial decisions to benefit thousands of retirees, savers, and institutions.

A full-time, up to five-year opportunity in our Investment Platform suitable for undergraduate students, and individuals with 1 to 3 years of work experience.

The goal of the Early Career Investor program is to provide flexible, value-added analytical resources to support the firm’s mission of superior investment performance. We aim to develop and identify exceptional RAs to build our pipeline of talented investors. Through a series of rotations, program participants will play a critical role in assisting experienced analysts and portfolio managers in conducting research and implementing their investment process. Some program participants may spend up to 24 months in their first rotation based on their experience and our needs may be more closely aligned with one asset class. Interested candidates should have geographic flexibility. For our 2024 hiring needs, opportunities exist globally, in Boston, London, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Examples of the nature of the work include:

  • Analyzing potential investment opportunities
  • Building and maintaining company financial spreadsheets
  • Modeling sophisticated financial instruments
  • Completing complex analytical projects
  • Researching macroeconomic themes
  • Communicating investment ideas in spoken and written form

The global early career program in our Investment Services and Technology (InvesTech) department is open to eligible undergraduate students graduating with their Bachelor’s degree in Summer 2024. As an InvesTech Associate, you will develop the foundation to become successful in a career in financial operations and technology. This global program starts in July 2024 and is designed to equip you with new skills and knowledge of our clients, industry, firm, and culture while developing a strong, global internal network that will set you up for a successful transition into the firm. By investing in your personal growth on day one, you will help us continue to exceed our client’s expectations. InvesTech Associates will receive training and skill building opportunities to develop expertise in the processes and technology that drive asset management, portfolio analysis, funds, and client engagement.
