Sean Petersen is a deal lead in Wellington Climate Growth Investing. He helps manage the firm’s private investment activity in growth-stage companies developing tech-enabled solutions that solve structural bottlenecks in constrained physical systems including energy, industry, supply chains, and the built environment. He works closely with global industry analysts and other research and value creation resources within the firm to identify, pursue and manage investments.
Prior to joining Wellington Management, Sean was general partner at the AI Fund (2019 – 2020) where he managed a venture fund focused on health, human capital, logistics and industrial AI centric technology companies. He was previously the venture lead at International Finance Corp. (2011 – 2019) where he developed and oversaw their venture sector investment strategies focused on climate and education within an ESG and impact framework.
Prior to the International Finance Corp, Sean worked at Good Energies Inc. (Cleantech venture fund of the Brenninkmeijer family) as director (2006 – 2011), as founding team member of Swapswire Limited (2001 – 2004), founding team member of Blackbird Holdings Inc. (1999 – 2001), and as an associate in Structured Finance/Derivatives at Merrill Lynch (1994 – 1999).
Sean holds a B.Sc. in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1994) and an MBA from the Wharton School University of Pennsylvania (2006).
