SI integration philosophy
At Wellington Management, we believe that material sustainability considerations are often strategic business concerns for issuers and can affect the long-term value of the assets in which we invest; therefore, it is in our clients’ best interest for us to analyze and consider these issues as part of our investment mosaic. SI integration is a collaborative process owned by investment teams and supported by stewardship and sustainability experts.
- As active investment managers, we view analysis and integration of material SI factors as both return-enhancing and risk-mitigating.
- SI research at Wellington is centralized and available to all investment teams. Each investment team incorporates this research into its decision making and risk-management practice as appropriate, and in a way that is consistent with its investment philosophy and process.
- Our SI Research analysts conduct in-depth analysis of the factors considered material to companies within their sector coverage. Materiality is the foundation of our integration process, as the sustainability issues likely to impact long-term value differ by sector and industry.
- We believe that SI integration doesn’t stop with research and that effective stewardship can create and protect long-term value. As our clients’ fiduciaries, we exercise active ownership to support investment teams' and issuers' evaluation of material risks and opportunities and to share feedback. We focus on constructive, two-way dialogue with management teams and boards of directors, while also using our proxy voting where appropriate.
