Invest in True Quality

Finding true quality isn't easy

This is a marketing communication. Please refer to the Fund Prospectus and KIID/KID and / or offering documents before making any final investment decisions. Please refer to the risks section at the bottom of this page.

Rethinking quality

Quality has long been associated with resilience. But in recent years, traditional quality strategies have not necessarily delivered the defensive consistency investors may have expected. That partly reflects changing market leadership, but it also highlights a fundamental point: quality means different things to different investors. Some focus on stability and downside protection, others on growth durability, valuation discipline or income resilience. In periods of uncertainty, we believe quality still matters — but investors need to be clear about which version of quality they own and how it fits within their portfolio.

At Wellington, our suite of quality-oriented managers reflects this diversity of views. Different teams may emphasise growth durability, valuation discipline, balance-sheet strength, income resilience or downside protection in different ways, meaning investors can select an approach that best aligns with their objectives.

Quality Equity

Quality investing in a changing market

Equity investors have long gravitated toward quality companies — for good reason. These companies, often characterised by high free cash flow, high return on equity, low leverage and stable earnings, have historically performed well, especially during times of market stress. Yet recent performance has not always matched what many investors would typically expect from quality.

In our view, this is not a reason to question the merits of quality stocks and bonds, but a reminder that quality is not a single, fixed concept. Definitions vary across investors and market cycles, and the characteristics that matter most can evolve as leadership shifts.

Broader but more selective

Quality hasn’t disappeared; it has evolved. Over the last decade, many traditional quality leaders became expensive and faced slowing growth, margin pressure and earnings downgrades. Meanwhile, a wider range of companies — including those in more traditionally cyclical areas — have seen fundamentals improve, with stronger cash flow, returns and resilience. As new sources of durable growth emerge, we believe quality now extends beyond legacy sectors and narrow, backward-looking definitions.

This shifting landscape reinforces the case for active  management, where investors can look beyond a single quality screen and assess which characteristics are most durable in today’s market.

Sustaining the long term outperformance may require redefining quality beyond the traditional factor
